Blair County Planning Commission members Thursday gave a positive review to an expansion project at the Sheetz Distribution Center complex in Greenfield Township.
Plans call for the construction of a new 102,900-square-foot logistics center/warehouse building with associated docks and a parking expansion, said MacKenzie Caron, community planner.
Additional development includes a 40,700-square-foot freezer expansion and 68,655-square-foot storage expansion to the current distribution center.
The project includes the addition of 194 new parking spaces, associated access drives, stormwater management improvements, rain gardens and grass-lined swales, Caron said.
“We are recommending the installation of landscape islands within the parking areas,” Caron said.
Sheetz spokesman Nick Ruffner previously said the new building is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024. The freezer expansion is expected to be completed in 2025.
Planning commission members also gave a favorable review to the Fifth Street Park improvements project along North Fifth and Locke streets in Antis Township.
This project is for the utilization of Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant funds for the purpose of rehabilitation of Fifth Street Park. It includes the removal of an existing dilapidated pavilion and landscaping as well as the construction of a natural play area. Additional improvements to the site include new landscaping, perimeter fencing, sidewalks and parking area.
